Fundamentalist loonies consign Bob Hope to Hell (Jul. 30, 2003)

It's about 4:30 on Tuesday afternoon, a lovely calm winter's day. But
this writer (moi) is still grieving over the loss of the great Bob
Hope. Yeah, I know the old stager with the ski-jump nose may have
been a vile right wing apologist - I saw him on Parkinson once
expressing his sincere belief that the U.S. army should have been
allowed to do whatever it liked in Vietnam, including using the
nuclear bomb - but he was funny as all hell, and many of his movies -
The Road to Rio, The Road to Morocco, My Favorite Brunette, etc. - are classics.
So imagine this writer's horror when he twirls the dial on the
Breen-mobile's radio to 1251AM (the Auckland frequency for Radio
Rhema, the "Christian" station) and hears the following exchange of
compassionate Christian views from the compassionate Christian host
(STEVE Somebody) and an unctuous-sounding compassionate American
"Christian" called DAN WOODING, who regularly appears on Rhema to
comment on current events and also to push his right-wing looney
fundamentalist "Christian" website.  If you want to see a good example
of how one of the core constituencies for the support of the rogue
Bush administration is indoctrinated, just click on THIS....

STEVE: Talking about deaths, I see Bob Hope died.
WOODING: [dubiously, with obvious distaste] Y-y-ye-e-e-e-ess,
y-y-ye-e-e-e-ess.
STEVE: Funny, you know, he brought joy for sixty, seventy years to
MILLIONS of people. But what a pity that in all that time he never
turned to Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
WOODING: No, there's no evidence that he was ever a believer.
STEVE: Yes... [sighs] It makes you wonder why he didn't.
WOODING: Well, he's going to wish he had now, because he's going to
burn in hell for all eternity.
STEVE: Yes, that's what we believe. He had the chance to turn to
Jesus Christ our saviour but...
WOODING: Well, that's too bad for him!

That's the sort of weird-arse thinking that made me finally decide
Christianity was a waste of time.
The core values aren't bad - but the mind-police heavy artillery is very
passe.

It's not a hoax.   It's a word for word, literal transcript.  They were serious.
