Ordinary people don't hate Assange for anything he's done, they hate him for how he makes them feel. It's easier to make him the bad guy than to deal with the cognitive dissonance of acknowledging everything you've believed about your nation, government, and society is a lie.

          People just don't want to admit that America's foreign policy is very violent and it is causing blowback in civilian society. We have many violent officials -- whether they be police or guards or federal marshals. No different from the Nazis of old war movies.
