Leading thinker outraged by do-gooders, liberals, marxists.... (Aug. 23, 2004)

Newstalk ZB, Monday 23 August 10.20 a.m.
Outrageously, a bunch of moral degenerates are planning to make a
counter-march today in Wellington against the glassy-eyed,
blackshirted hordes of the Rave-rend Brian Tamaki's Legion of Density.
Word of this outrageous development reaches the leading moralist and
renowned thinker LEIGHTON SMITH.  Predictably, the brilliant
broadcaster is disgusted and outraged.  He gives vent to his outrage
and disgust with the following rant...
"You see, getting rid of the death penalty... HRRRRUMPH... supposed to
be imprisoned for LIFE.... SCOFF.... you see, this is where the
DO-GOODERS, where the LIBERALS, where the MARXISTS have undermined our
society... SNARL...  Am I conservative?  You bet.  Have I learned from
experience?  You bet.  Why haven't the rest of us?  Why hasn't the
country?  DAMNED IF I KNOW."
[Advertisements...]
THE QUOTED WORDS, HOWEVER BIZARRE, HAVE NOT BEEN INVENTED.  THEY WERE
ACTUALLY SPOKEN BY MR LEIGHTON SMITH.

Which?  Leighton Smith, The Destiny rally, The UniQ &/or the Against
Conservative Fundamentalism counter protest???  Or perhaps you were being
sarcastic and glad you missed all four?

Why is Smith trying to imitate American talk radio?
It's a poison best left where it was created - in a land with deeply
polarised politics, lacking the open political system that would allow the
pressure to be released.
That is not New Zealand.

My sentiments exactly. My Boss saw it and said it was a great laugh.
Nearly took some time off to go and check it out, but naaa.
Besides I bet it was not as good as the stoush at the springbok game in
Welly back in the 80's. I can remember the police clearing a path for us up
thru Rintoul St so we could get into the ground.
Batons and shields out, mayhem everywhere and some women had singled me out
and was screming "shame on you, shame on you"  continuously as I walked to
the park.
cheers

Why is Breen trying to pretend he is on the radio?

US is much more democratic than here.

By a fluke, I happened to be in a room where the radio was tuned to this
station when he spoke those words.  My impression was that he was
talking about the case of the murderer who was awarded $1200 for hurt
feelings.  I didn't hear any mention of Density Church.

In spite of your best efforts to create such polarisation, fuckwit.

Then you hadn't been listening for long.  Certainly, Smith was talking
about the ludicrous "hurt feelings" award, but he was also talking
about today's Wellington marches.  For this serious and brilliant
commentator, the "liberal" counter-march was another symptom of the
Decline of Western Civilisation, all of it brought about by, of
course, do-gooders, liberals and marxists.

What part of American life do you regret we haven't got, Dunford?  The
poverty?  The crime?  The corrupt political system?  The cowering,
intimidated mainstream news organisations?  The mindless, bogus
"patriotism"?  The fraudulently installed government?

Nah, that's "polarised" in my case.  When pompous pretenders like
Steve aren't around to get my hackles up, I'm actually quite a nice

A Head of State that didn't inherit his job.
A competent Chief Justice.
A legislature independant of the executive.
Stronger select committees.
A decent military to kick the arse of anyone we don't like.
An entertainment industry capable of producing decent drama and comedy.
A space program.
etc.

What makes you think that (assuming you really do) ? I've seen nothing
to suggest it's that much more or less foisted upon us than in any
other country.
