The Labour Party must reinstate Professor Moshé Machover now

27 October, 2017
• COUNCILLOR Phil Rosenberg (Moshé Machover’s historical revisionism is not just poor history, it is malicious, October 19) claims that Professor Moshé Machover has distorted history by suggesting some sort of “common cause between the Zionists… with the Nazis, whose oppression culminated in… the murder of six million Jews in the Holocaust”.
However historical research has established beyond doubt that in the early 1930s negotiations took place between the leadership of the German Zionists and the Nazis.
US academic Francis Nicosia describes in his book ‘The Third Reich and the Palestine Question‘ how, in 1935, Reinhard Heydrich, future architect of the Holocaust, wrote in the SS newspaper: “the recognition of Jewry as a racial community… leads the German government to guarantee the racial separateness of this community… The government finds itself in complete agreement with the great spiritual movement within Jewry… Zionism, with its recognition of the solidarity of Jewry throughout the world and the rejection of all assimilationist ideas…”
The Haavara agreement of 1933 allowed German Jews emigrating to Palestine as a result of Nazi persecution to keep some of their property in Germany by buying German goods for the Yishuv (Zionist settlements in British Mandate Palestine).
This was in violation of the international boycott of Nazi Germany. And according to Hans Friedenthal, former chairman of the ZVfD (the German Zionists): “The Gestapo did everything in those days to promote emigration, particularly to Palestine.”
However by 1937-8, the Nazis had become opposed to the idea of a Jewish state in Palestine as it would become a universally-recognised power base for international Jewry, with the Nazis’ anti-Semitic policies making Germany a natural enemy.
Moreover U.S. historian Lenni Brenner in his book ‘Zionism in the Age of the Dictators’ also documented how “German Zionism offers to collaborate with Nazism”.
Another German Zionist leader, Rabbi Joachim Prinz wrote in 1933: “Boycott propaganda… currently being carried out against Germany… is… un-Zionist, because Zionism wants not to do battle but to convince and to build… the German government will have full understanding for a candid and clear Jewish posture that harmonises with the interests of the state.”
And in 1934 Prinz wrote: “The theory of assimilation has collapsed. We are no longer hidden in secret recesses. We want to replace assimilation by something new: the declaration of belonging to the Jewish nation and the Jewish race. A state, built according to the principle of purity of the nation and race [ie the Third Reich – editor’s note], can only be honoured and respected by a Jew who declares his belonging to his own kind.”
The historical evidence thus clearly vindicates Moshé Machover. There is not a hint of anti-Semitism in his articles.
Over 1,200 Labour Party members have called for his immediate reinstatement into the Labour Party, as have over two dozen branches and additional constituency Labour parties. His expulsion should be rescinded immediately.
