On the Newstalk ZB news at six o'clock, autocue reader Barry Holland reads in excited tones: "Coming up after the break - Israel.... STRIKES BACK."

That they needed to have a break before getting to such news?

No.  I think we're all used to advertisements breaking up the News.
Think, RK, think....

That the newsreader was all excited over what has been routine for God knows
how long?
Palestinians strike - Israel strikes back.  Israel strikes - Palestinians
strike back.  Palestinians strike ...
It's called a vicious circle, no?

After this writer (moi) had questioned Newstalk ZB's Barry Holland
reading out, in excited tones, "ISRAEL... STRIKES.... BACK", Sue
Bilstein" <sue_bi...@yahoo.com> glibly contributed the following in
message news:<0Q11b.122707$JA5.2827409@news.xtra.co.nz>...

No.  That the newsreader was given such blatant pro-Israeli propaganda
to read.  It's nothing new, of course...

No.  Wrong metaphor.  A circle implies some sort of equality in this
situation.   Wouldn't a "vicious crushing machine" or a "vicious
helicopter gunship and tank raid" be more appropriate?

Somehow I suspected this might be your take on it.

After this writer suggested that a "vicious circle" was the wrong
metaphor to use in the case of Israel-Palestine, because that
incorrectly implies some sort of equality between the Israeli army and
the uttely desperate Palestinian resistance,  and that a "vicious

crushing machine" or a "vicious helicopter gunship and tank raid"
might be more appropriate, our friend sue_bi...@yahoo.com (Sue
Bilstein) dismissively wrote in message

My "take" on it is the view of most people in the world who have eyes.

Oh sorry Morrissey - please please don't include me in one of your ever so
slick "post of the year" posts or even worse one of your cleverly "written"
fantasy posts where you come out as the victor in some bizarre encounter!
(note sarcasm)
Oh, here's a hint - note the sarcasm in the post you replied to as well.
