Actually, it is okay sometimes. As Julian Savea knows, there are some
women who just drive you to take steps. And even though his crime was
far worse than my entirely justified lashing out four years ago, I
hope this bloke doesn't get put through the wringer like I was.
Although, seeing he's a football star, and a member of the darker
persuasion, I'm sure the jackals at TV3 and Radio Live will go easy on
him. It's a pity they weren't so hesitant to go after me....

Hurricanes and all Blacks wing Julian Savea has apologised to his
partner and her family after it was revealed he had been charged with
assault.
Savea, 22, appeared at a press conference this afternoon after
Hurricanes and New Zealand Rugby confirmed he would appear in
Wellington District Court tomorrow.
Reading from a prepared statement, Savea said there was an incident
last Sunday and he was charged with common assault.
"Whilst I can't go in to the details because it is now before the
courts, I understand that the details will come out in due course. But
I will say that my partner and I did have an argument, I did some
things that are wrong and that I shouldn't have done and I apologise
for that. To my partner and her family I just want to say that I'm
sorry to hurt someone that you love and care so much for. To be in
this situation, I know it's hurting them and it's definitely hurting
me, so I apologise to them.''
Savea said while he did not want to make the issue about the
Hurricanes, the NZRU and the All Blacks, he acknowledged that he
represented them.
"I just want you guys to know that I'm not making excuses for myself,
I know what I did was wrong and I'm taking steps to make sure this
will never happen again and my main concern after all of this is
making sure that my partner and baby are OK after all of this.''
Wearing all black, Savea sobbed as he read from the statement and took
long pauses as he tried to keep his emotions in check. He was
supported today by his younger brother Ardie, who took a seat in the
crowd at the press conference.
Julian Savea, who made his provincial debut for Wellington in 2010 and
first played for the Hurricanes in 2011, appeared on posters last year
as part of the "It's Not OK'' campaign against family violence,
The Ministry of Social Development, which ran the It's not OK campaign
against family violence, today declined to comment.
Ministry spokesman Dominic McGurk said it would not discuss the
charges before Savea's court appearance tomorrow.
