Yes, ummmm, errrrr, ahhhhhhhmmmm. Of course. Just as the, ummmm, name, errrrrrrr, ahhhhhhhhm, Donald Trump connotes ahhhh, ummmmm, errrrrrr, “chivalry” and, errrrr, ummmmm, “deep learning”, so the name Leighton Smith connotes “intelligence” and ummmmm, errrrrr, ahhhh, ummmm…. “eloquence.”Oh yes indeed. Ummm, errrrr, ahhhhmmm….https://morrisseybreen.blogspot.com/2017/12/not-everybody-appreciates-charm-and.htmlManolo

Learn Te Reo. If you want. Or another language. If you want.A language used by computers is most useful. As is English.Pretending a language is important when it isn’t doesn’t make it so.Jack5
It seems to me that computers don’t use a normal language so much as we use a language to control them, like the traditional commands for driving a draught horse team – commands brought over by settlers from Britain.“Language” to me includes the notion of being two-way. I suppose that. in a loose sort of a way, draught-horse commands can be called a language, but if so it’s in even more danger of becoming extinct than Maori is. Perhaps we should teach it in schools. The internet, notably Youtube and Skype, are revolutionising human-language learning. Enthusiasts aren’t stopping a learning one or two new languages.Part of the fun in learning a new language is learning about new countries. Maori language isn’t exotic to most New Zealanders, and there’s bugger all written literature in it compared with in Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese, German, Hindi.Would there be 100 books published in Maori a year? Compare this with nearly half a million new and revised titles in English in Britain and United States, more than 100,000 each in Japan and Russia, and in NZ (overwhelmingly in English) about 3,600.If you’re having a quiet Christmas this discussion of the difference between human and computer languages may be interesting:https://www.bluelight.org/vb/threads/512123-Computer-Language-vs-Human-Language-similarities-differences
