Censorship of free speech: Muttonbird silenced on Kiwiblog (Oct. 2, 2018)
Muttonbird
It’s really interesting to know what sort of free speech isn’t allowed on this blog, the supposed home of free speech.
Nostradamus
Muttonbird:
Let’s deal with this in two stages.
Stage 1: Can you give an example of “free speech [that] isn’t allowed on this blog”? The word “allowed” implies a criticism of DPF’s moderating policy, so I’m intrigued to know what specific point you say isn’t allowed to be discussed here.
Stage 2, in case you’re wondering, will be a contrast with what goes down at your other home (The Standard). Definitely no free speech there!
Muttonbird
I commented on this very thread that the National Party leaker, Jami-Lee Ross, had been revealed.
There’s an extremely high probability that this is the case and I was exercising my right to free speech by saying it.
The comment has been deleted. That is censorship.
Nostradamus
Muttonbird:
There are only 2 ways for a comment to be deleted. First, DPF deletes it. That happens rarely, as far as I know. Second, 5 different people click on the report button, and your comment goes into moderation until DPF checks it. I’ve seen cases (involving Hugh) where a comment disappeared but reappeared later, presumably after DPF released it. My view is that, compared to other blogs, DPF has the moderating balance about right – particularly as he’s busy running a business and caring for a family.
But, to your point, you’ve made a tenuous connection between an announcement that Jami-Lee Ross is taking medical leave for personal health reasons and a leaked National Party announcement. I didn’t see your comment. It’s possible, though, that 5 people reported it on the basis that it made light of a serious mental health issue. I assume you’d take the same view if someone on your political side of the fence went on leave for similar reasons and others sought to make fun of it?
Muttonbird
Reported comments (5 times) are still visible to the commenter who made them when logged in.
Two of my comments today and one a few days ago have disappeared completely along with all the sub-threaded replies to that comment. I can’t see them so they have been deleted.
I’m not making fun of Jami-Lee Ross – I wish him well – I just wish Simon Bridges didn’t lie to the public today. You’d know that if the comment hadn’t been erased.
Bridges must think we are stupid, and it is appalling that he and whoever put Ross up to the leak (Cameron Slater) would use mental health as a shield which to hide behind.
I actually applaud Farrar doing a bit of moderating for once even if he’s censoring free speech on this occasion because he’s done a piss-poor job to date.

I was exercising my right to free speech by saying it.
No-one is stopping you from saying it on your own blog, or shouting it from your rooftop, … but this blogspace is not your personal fiefdom.
We are all here courtesy of our host, DPF.
Muttonbird
Let’s apply the same to Southern, Molineux, and Brash, then.
They are free to spout racist intolerance wherever people will have them, and they do.
Muttonbird I’ll be very very very surprised if Bridges’ extraordinarily expensive investigations name any other National MP as the leaker.
mickysavage I see you have been having a bit of fun at a site that will not be named …
Were you having “a bit of fun” here at Kiwiblog? Did you notice the recent media coverage about Greg Boyed? Some topics probably don’t lend themselves to having “a bit of fun”.
mikenmildagain
Don’t come over too holier-than-thou, Nostradamus. It really doesn’t suit you.
Nostradamus
Mike:
You’re hardly one to talk – you chip away at Maggy and say nothing when Stephieboy goes after her. Maggy has commented on your behaviour more than once.
mikenmildagain
Exactly. I’m sick of hypocrites like her and Keeping Stock. I’ve said many times that stephieboy is a bit limited. I think it was itstricky who observed the other day that it’s a bit like the class taunting a retarded kid and them complaining when he punches someone. There are plenty of people on Kiwiblog already keeping an eye on stephieboy, doxxing him even. They don’t need my help.
Muttonbird
On that note, Mike, I’ll be leaving now.
I don’t like the idea of people here doxxing me because they don’t like what I say.
stephieboy
Muttonbird, regarding doxxing it is something I have mixed feelings. It is more a reflection of the kind of people they are ( including Nostradamus ) limited by ignorance, intolerance and utterly contemptible.to boot.
There would be a hell to pay if either of us doxed them with threats of summonses etc.!
“Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.”
Jami-Lee Ross expressly denied he had anything to do with the leak because he was expecting this sad type of politicking. You say the leaker had been revealed. He had not. You are deliberately taking a position against him without evidence. More MP’s should take leave–it’s a very stressful job 25hrs/day 55 weeks/year.
Freedom of speech may not extend to a statement of opinion as an alternative. Damaging peoples reputation on say so may have legal implications.
waikatogirl
Disgusted to see TVNZ news led by mixing JLR taking sick leave and insinuating that he was taking leave as he was the leaker. They promised more to come! Pack of weasels. I hope TVNZ apologise if JLR is proven not to be the leaker.

….”what sort of free speech isn’t allowed on this blog”…..
Defamation, endless trolling (vicious like ztev, not inane like say stephieboy) & acting unhinged (eg. RealityCzech over Jews) are about all that incur the wrath of DPF. Of course if you’re socially liberal & non religious you’ll be downticked into oblivion but shit happens.
Other than that bugger all that I’ve noticed.

Nasska:
DPF has (as a public service) kept some of the best rants for Kiwiblog readers to enjoy. Like this one – Dad went from 0 demerits to 110 in 22 minutes!
nasska
That was a classic. And he kept it up via email.
Not Dad’s finest hour!

Christ, just went back and reread that stuff back in 2011, he became unhinged back then when trying to give up smoking. Of course he’s a completely different bloke now….He voted Winston !~

Suggesting, or advocating, or hinting we assassinate a politician. I was not aware that this is illegal in New Zealand. In Africa, one can advocate for the assassination of politicians one does not like…., but thankfully, this is not Africa! Hope this is helpful…..

Groper No. 18 wants FBI to investigate Groper No. 43
Groper no. 18 is possibly insane, as is no. 43. Their actions deserve such an epithet. Could you justify your use of it to describe me? (To be frank, I don’t think you can.)
