Idiots Posing as Football Experts No. 1: MARK STAFFORD (T.A.B.) Nov. 1, 2011

Now that the 2011 World Cup is over, we believe it's time to
remind ourselves of the credulousness, outright foolishness and almost complete lack of expertise of far, far too many of the mass media's football "experts". Over the next few days and weeks, we will present some of the most egregious examples of football ignorance that blighted the atmosphere of an otherwise magical seven weeks...

Idiot No. 1: Mark Stafford (T.A.B.)

The Panel, National Radio, Thursday 13 October 2011, 4.45 p.m.

PREDICTION: Oblivious to the fact that France had just thrashed mighty England in the quarter-finals, this genius decided that the most talented team in the world would be no match for Wales. He learnedly and intelligently assured Jim Mora's audience that Wales was unstoppable: "Watch them on Saturday night against France. They will blank them."

It is worth noting that while the other Panelists refrained from
snorting in derision or even commenting on that blast of inanity, one JOHN DUNNE (brother of the infamous Member of Parliament for Ohariu) fulsomely agreed with Stafford's perceptive assessment.

RESULT: France won 9-8, barely even bothering to exert itself.
