Footage of Queensland One Nation leader Steve Dickson during an alcohol-fuelled strip club romp, in which he groped a stripper and made offensive comments, has shocked Pauline Hanson. The One Nation boss told voters they deserve better after the video of Mr Dickson cavorting with dancers at a Washington DC strip club last year was aired by Nine Network. During the dark and grainy recording, Mr Dickson is heard saying “now that young lady has got a wonderful set of cahoonas”, “I’ve done more Asian than I know what to do with”, and “white women f… a whole lot better, they know what they are doing”.
Mr Dickson, who was also a Senate candidate, resigned as soon as footage of his x-rated antics was broadcast on Monday night.
Senator Hanson said Mr Dickson’s language and behaviour had failed to live up to her expectations and those of voters. “I am both shocked and disappointed at the vision I forced myself to watch,” she told reporters yesterday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dickson said he was drunk that night and “deeply remorseful” for his actions. “I would like to sincerely apologise for my behaviour that was aired on television last night as a result of the Al Jazeera covert operation filmed in the United States in September 2018,” he said. “The footage shown does not reflect the person I am. It shows a person who was drunk and not in control of his actions and I take full responsibility for allowing that to happen.”
