    The head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Brock Long, said Wednesday he is resigning his post after less than two years on the job. Long’s resignation came after a government auditor found he improperly used government vehicles to travel to and from his home in North Carolina. As FEMA administrator, Brock Long oversaw the Trump administration’s widely criticized response to devastating wildfires in California and other western states, as well as a series of major hurricanes in 2017—Harvey, Irma and Maria. Last year, a George Washington University study commissioned by Puerto Rico’s governor found over 3,000 people died as a direct result of Hurricane Maria. After Donald Trump disputed the findings, Brock Long defended the president. Brock Long: “These studies are all over the place. The Harvard study was done differently, studies a different period of time, versus the George Washington study. There’s a big discrepancy, whether it’s direct deaths or indirect deaths.”

    In response to Brock Long’s resignation Wednesday, San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz tweeted, “Brock Long was Trump’s hatchet man in the botched Puerto Rican relief effort after hurricanes Irma and María. He should have been fired and held accountable for the loss of lives.” Deputy FEMA chief Peter Gaynor will serve as acting administrator until the Senate confirms a replacement.

    What’s with the Lefty Loon vendetta against Eden Park? They’ve got an endless pot for Rail speculation but nothing for one of the best sports venues for spectators, around. It’s so quintessentially Kiwi but the Council seems determined to run it into the ground.

      Because Helen doesn’t like it, we’re going to get a billion dollar bill for a stadium downtown that can’t hold cricket games, block out harbour views and mean the port needs to be relocated.

      Meanwhile, when India/Aus come to NZ for ODIs, we’re going to be faced with playing them at a ground with limited capacity and paying through the nose for ticket prices. And even then it’s just a matter of time before the Grey Lynners decide they don’t like cricket either.

        According to multiple callers on Radio Sport this morning, the idiots that run Eden Park couldn’t cope with the 20,000 crowd last night for the Phoenix. Long queues to get in, to wait for horrible food, etc, etc.

          I can’t help but feel that’s probably a result of massive cost cutting given the state their in. It probably ends up being a giant feedback loop. The Council playing silly buggers with secret reports suggests they are just waiting for time to do the dirty work for them, rather than front on why the cost of a total redevelopment of Eden Park into an indoor stadium is probably far less than their preferred downtown option.

    The Auckland council should just open up Eden Park to as many game and concerts as it wants to hold!
    F the nimbies.
    Its not every day.
    Then it may be able to pay its way.
    Then sit down with experts from each sport and entertainment and work out a decent plan for Aucklands stadia for the next 50 years.

      Mt Smart is fine for concerts & the Warriors.
      The Blues and Auckland rugby teams already play there. Any other rugby games would run at a lose.
      It’s barely appropriate for cricket.
